FREEE Recycle Limited executes a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with APM Terminals Apapa
Sage Grey Finance Limited is pleased to announce the partnership between FREEE Recycle Limited and APM Terminals Apapa which will strengthen both party’s co-operation on matters of environmental sustainability through recycling, manufacturing, advocacy, vocational skills training, women empowerment and sustainability employment.
The MOU was officially signed on June 9, 2022 at APM Terminals office in Apapa.
FREEE Recycle is a leading Africa-focused recycling company which engages in transformation of recycled waste products which include but not limited to tyres, polyethylene terephthalate bottles, glass into reusable and eco-friendly products. FREEE Recycle is a subsidiary of FREEE Recycle Holding Limited which is registered as a corporate entity in the United Kingdom.
APM Terminals is one of the largest container Terminals in West Africa with an annual capacity of over 1,000,000 TEUs. Its services include but not limited to equipment life cycle management, cross docking transportation, full reefer services, stuffing & destuffing, container conversion, container/equipment sale and lease, verified gross mass, cargo manufacturing, storage, warehousing, gate handling. APM Terminals Apapa is a subsidiary of APM Terminals.
The Agreement shall focus on collaborative efforts towards agreeing a common approach in having FREEE Recycle Limited manufacture and produce recycled environment-friendly products from tyre waste generated from the operations of APM Terminals. The agreement shall further ensure compliance with all HSSE laws and industry best practices by both parties.
FREEE Recycle aims to recycle 25 million scrap tyres over the next 5 years, which is the duration of the MoU. APM Terminals Apapa would contribute towards the achievement of FREEE Recycles’ target by contributing its scrap tyres. The scrap tyres would be used in the production of tiles, mats, interlocking stones, kerbs, marine fenders and other products.
Each 6kg tyre emits 10.8kg of CO₂ when incinerated, hence the recycling of 25 million tyres will prevent approximately 270,000MT of CO₂ from being emitted into the atmosphere in 5 Years.
According to WHO, the mortality rate from malaria related cases is 0.18%. The Recycling of 25 million tyres would impact over 125 million individuals which would prevent over 225,000 malaria related mortalities.
FREEE Recycle currently employs over 150 full-time staff and has over 200 direct and indirect agents which include waste tyres collectors and suppliers. The MoU would contribute to the employment of over 500 Nigerians within the duration of the MoU.
FREEE Recycle and APM Terminals Apapa would also carry out joint campaigns on waste recycling and environmental sustainability.
